Easy to Make Homemade Playdough

Playing with playdough is a great activity for the little ones, the warm squishy texture of freshly made playdough is lots of fun!

1 cup of flour (whatever kind you have on hand)
1/4 cup of salt
1 Tbsp cream of tartar (optional)
1/2 cup of warm water
Food colouring of choice (or multiple colours)

  1. In a bowl, mix together the flour, salt and cream of tartar.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the warm waters with a few drops of food colouring.
  3. Slowly pour the water into the flour mixture, stirring as you pour. Stir until combined, then knead with your hands until the flour is completely absorbed. If the dough is too sticky, you can add more flour until it doesn’t stick at all.
  4. Repeat the process for whichever colours you want to make.

Let your child choose what colour the playdough will be by adding food colourings to the dough, and have a supply of cookie cutters, rolling pins and plastic knives on hand to encourage imaginative play!  However, always keep an eye on your little one as they play. Playdough will keep for a few days in an airtight container.
